Today, in my advertising class I realized something. Food in an advertisement never quite looks the same as food when you make it or order it. Even a juicy greasy hamburger isn't quite as glamorous once you order it and unwrap it to see the lettuce, and soggy pickles sliding off to the side. The ad industry makes everything seem so flashy. They say there isn't much truth in advertising, and i'm starting to see ads are like onions. You have to peel back all the flashiness, layer by layer, to find the true product.
On a deeper note, I feel like we as people present ourselves this way. We are so obsessed with having the best hair, best clothing and always having a perfect smile on. Call me a realist, but when I meet someone I want to be able to see the true person they are. Instead we have all these "pretenders" who show the world what they think the world wants to see, or what they want the world to see. I say don't be ashamed of who you are. We are all made individually which is what makes the world such a crazy place. No two people are alike and that is amazing.
So next time you decide to put up a front, think about this... If the person you meet thinks they are getting a warm red center medium rare filet salad with perfectly cut tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh avocados and blue cheese crumbles, won't they be upset when they find out their medium rare is actually medium well, the tomatoes are mushy, and the avocados have turned brown. Show people the real you from the start and you will see that people are a lot more likely to like you the more they get to know you. Don't disappoint with false advertising!
Cheerio.
